A drizzly Thursday with the pigment
Yesterday Leif came round, and we ended up mixing greens. For once, I didn't change anything halfway through painting the same view every week. I'm still not sure whether it was the underdrawing or the weather. The difference was small but obvious: a glowing sky.
Lessons from a muddy wash and colours that dried too pale
I tried painting small studies at the kitchen table instead, and it helped. Even Bobbin seemed to disapprove. It was frosty outside, which never helps with sketching outdoors. There's always a risk of buckled paper, and this time it nearly happened.
I'll admit I ruined a sky by fiddling without checking anything first. The notebook says 250 gsm paper, which is about what I expected. It feels like the sky and I are finally on speaking terms.
It's a small thing, but a finished painting made the week. The goal for October is a painting a week, and we'll see how that goes.
